"Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy
and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men;
according to the basic principles of the world,
and not according to Christ"
Colossians 2:8
The book of Colossians is viewed by many Bible scholars as being the most Christ-centered epistle of Paul's. Wrong doctrine had crept into the Christian congregation at Colossae and Paul's purpose in writing this letter was to flush out the false teaching.
In many of today's denominations various degrees of false teachings has crept in, which contributes to the lukewarmness of this church age. Just as the above verse implies, instead of blindly accepting the church doctrines as being gospel, we need to ensure they are backed by Scripture.
The purpose of this book is to reveal Christ's formula for living the normal Christian life and experiencing the freedom He promised. If this is your desire then this series on the book of Colossians will be of value to you.
In this lesson we will focus on the following aspects of the Christian life:

"He has delivered us from the power of darkness
and conveyed us into the kingdom of the
Son of His love"
Colossians 1:13
There are many wonderful verses in the Bible, but the above verse has to be viewed as one of the most exciting. As the verse implies, when we become a Christian, we are instantly translated from the kingdom of Satan to the kingdom of Christ.
From God's perspective there have been three different kingdoms in the world—the Adamic kingdom, a national kingdom (Israel), and a spiritual kingdom.
In this lesson we will examine the following interesting aspects of the spiritual kingdom—the kingdom of Christ:

"He is the head of the body,
the church"
Colossians 1:18
In order for a person to function both a head and a body is required. Our head provides us with wisdom and direction, while our body carries out the desires of our head.
This lesson is about the advantageous of living under the direction of our head—Jesus Christ. Jesus spoke of this relationship when He said,"Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me" (John 15:4). Only through His guidance and wisdom can we experience the Christian life as it is defined in the Bible.
If we fail to make a conscious step of faith of inviting Christ to take over the management of our lives we will find ourselves functioning similar to a decapitated turkey—kicking up a lot of religious dust and going nowhere fast!
If it is your desire to be more than a conqueror (experiencing victory in your heart in the midst of life's tribulations), and experiencing the abundant life Jesus promised, then this Colossians Bible study lesson will be of value to you.

He became poor, that you through His

Rev. Dr. Dean, Pastor- If you are looking for a man with a fresh perspective to lead your church to another level, consider inviting Jack to come in and lead a series of teaching sessions. Our church thoroughly enjoyed the time. He is competent in handling the scriptures, and has great insight about Biblical truths that are often neglected or simply not taught by design in so many of our churches today. You will not be disappointed if you embark on such a course.
Connie - I can't put the book Under the Cloud down!
David (a Sunday School teacher for Young Marrieds) - It is a great teaching resource that I know is reliable. There are specific topics that I can easily access for use in my class like "The Rock" and I especially liked the section on "Educating the Flesh."
Mary Anne - Under the Cloud is not just another man's opinion, it is all based on Scripture.
Antoinette (who has already purchased over 30 books) - As I give the book to friends and clients, I say to them "put down all the other books you are reading and read this one! I promise you Under the Cloud will change your life."
Julie - I started reading Under the Cloud yesterday and felt enveloped in love, as well as wonderful memories of being taught amazing and powerful truths through two incredible servants of God. Thank You!
Name withheld by us - I will send my husband and son off to the Middle East in Sept. for their second deployment with a copy of your book. (Likely to Afghanistan).
Karen - I am really enjoying your book. It sure is one that I will go back to. I have already marked it up.
John & Jane - We are both enjoying your book so much. Please bring us 10 more signed copies on Thursday.
Rob - My only criticism of the book is that I eventually ran out of pages.
Sally - Your book is fantastic! I just wish I had read it 20 years ago. It would have answered a lot of my questions.
Wayne - I loved the section on "Rigged Fights."
