Introduction:

The theme of this lesson can be summed up in one word—inheritance.

I have a legal document in my desk drawer which is titled The New Will and Testament of Jack McDonald. As the testator, I listed my estate and named the beneficiaries. As long as I am alive my will is a dead document and is of no value to my beneficiaries. My will only becomes alive once I die.

"Where there is a testament, there must also of
necessity be the death of the testator. For a
testament is in force after men are dead,
since it has no power at all while the
testator lives
"
Hebrews 9:16-17

In this lesson we will examine Christ's Will. As the Testator, He recorded the benefits and named the beneficiaries. The beneficiaries are all who have a blood relationship with Him—family members—kin. Approximately 2,000 years ago Jesus died which means His Will is now in force. The wealthiest person in the world is a Christian who is spending his inheritance.

"In Him also we have obtained an inheritance" (Ephesians 1:11). For various reasons many Christians live in a state of spiritual poverty. If you have a desire to begin tapping into your Christ-given inheritance, then this series on the book of Ephesians will be of value to you.

"Though He was rich, yet for your sakes He
became poor, that you through His
poverty might become rich"

2 Corinthians 8:9

Ephesians
Bible Study Lesson 1

This lesson is about having an intimate relationship with Christ. In today's lukewarm church age, many who occupy a pew, have a more intimate relationship with the religious building, and its programs, than they do with the One the building is supposed to represent.

If you find yourself exiting a religious building each week in much the same spiritual condition as you entered, then this lesson on the book of Ephesians will be an encouragement to you.

Ephesians
Bible Study Lesson 2

This lesson is about our status in the kingdom of Christ. Most Christians have a shallow view of the quality of life that is available to them, and as a result, experience a substandard brand of Christianity. It was never God's intention for His people to display such bondage as anger, worry, fear, and anxiety.

In this lesson we will examine the following benefits of being a Christian:

  • Why God views Christians as being blameless.
  • The benefits of being adopted into God's family.
  • Why the comedian Flip Wilson had a false doctrine, when he said, The devil made me do it."
  • Why the apostle Paul refers to this church age a being a mystery.
  • Why a person can believe in such Bible truths as the virgin birth, the miracles of Christ, the crucifixion, the resurrection, and still be a nonbeliever (1 Corinthians 15:2).

Ephesians
Bible Study Lesson 3

"He put all things under His feet, and gave Him
to be head over all things to the church"

Ephesians 1:22

If a persons body is to function effectively it needs a reliable head, as wisdom, and guidance, originates from our head—not from our body. This truth also applies to the body of Christ. If today's church is to enjoy the quality of life Adam experienced in the Garden prior to the Fall, it needs to be under the management and guidance of its Head—the Lord Jesus Christ!

With few exceptions, Christians in today's lukewarm church age function independently from Christ. Instead of living under the Lordship of Christ, most within the Christian community live a self-managed life, where they lean unto their own understanding for guidance and direction. That is a formula that invites various degrees of problems.

This world is one big war zone, and as long as we live a self-managed life, it is just a matter of time before we step on a harmful mine.

If it is your desire to avoid the pitfalls of this world, this study on the book of Ephesian will give you the secret for experiencing the abundant life Christ promised.

Ephesians
Bible Study Lesson 4

This lesson will examine the following truths:

  • Why man was initially created with the capability to live on earth forever.
  • Why Old Testament saints such as Adam and Noah lived over 900 years, while the lifespan of man has continually declined since the Flood.
  • Why God views the population of this world as being divided into two categories—those who are spiritually alive and those who are spiritually dead.
  • Why God instructed the Old Testament Jews to be circumcised. Contrary to the belief of many it wasn't for hygienic reasons.
  • Why the apostle Paul views all Christians as being circumcised.

Ephesians
Bible Study Lesson 5

In this study on the Commandments we will examine the following:

  • Why God presented Moses with the Ten Commandments.
  • Why a person cannot be justified by keeping the law of Moses.
  • Why the purpose of the law isn't to show Christians how to function.

This lesson will explain God's purpose for presenting Israel with the Commandments.

Ephesians
Bible Study Lesson 6

This lesson is about the benefits of experiencing the full gospel—Christianity 101—receiving Christ as both Savior and Lord.

Receiving Christ as Savior is wonderful as that decision settles where we spend eternity. However, that experience does little to provide us with the abundant life on planet earth. To experience that quality of life means making a conscious decision to hand Christ the reins of our life—making Him our Lord! Once we experience the full gospel we can then begin to enjoy the quality of life Adam experienced prior to the Fall.

If there has never been a time in your life when you made a conscious decision to turn the management of your life over to Christ, then this lesson will be of benefit to you.

Ephesians
Bible Study Lesson 7

"Walk worthy of the calling with which
you were called
"
Ephesians 4:1

The apostle Paul refers to Christians as being ambassadors for Christ (2 Corinthians 5:20). Before a reliable ambassador is sent to a foreign embassy he goes through an extensive training period.

If we are to be reliable ambassadors for Christ we need to be properly equipped for the task. This study on the book of Ephesians explains some of the training that is required if we are to be a positive ambassador for Christ.

Ephesians
Bible Study Lesson 8

"We are to God the fragrance of Christ
among those who are being saved
and among those who
are perishing"
2 Corinthians 2:15

This lesson is about finding freedom from our fleshly addictions so we will radiate a positive fragrance of Christ to both the lost and saved. Displaying such fleshly generated traits as stress, fear, anger, and worry isn't being a positive testimony of what Jesus can do with a redeemed life.

If it is your desire to be a positive testimony for Christ, then this lesson will be an encouragement to you.

Ephesians
Bible Study Lesson 9

"A man shall leave his father and mother
and be joined to his wife, and they
shall become one flesh"

Genesis 2:24

This lesson is about having a healthy relationship with both Christ and fellow believers.

In Christ's final recorded prayer, unity among believers was at the top of His prayer list (John 17:11). If today's Christian community is to break out of the lukewarm state it finds itself, developing unity among Christians will help to make this a reality.

If it is your desire to climb out of the lukewarm religious rut, then this lesson will be an encouragement for you to move in that direction.

Ephesians
Bible Study Lesson 10

"We do not wrestle against flesh and blood,
but against principalities, against powers,
against the rulers of the darkness of this age,
against spiritual hosts of wickedness
in heavenly places"
Ephesians 6:12

Do you realize that we live in a war zone and that this world is a major battlefield? The battle is an unusual war, as it isn't like the Vietnam, or the Gulf war, but a spiritual battle.

In this lesson we will examine the following details of the war:

  • When the war began.
  • What triggered the war.
  • How earth became the battlefield once the first residents arrived on the planet.
  • In any battle there is always a victor and a defeated foe. Evidence of being defeated is displaying such fleshly traits as worry, fear, and anger. Evidence of being a victor is when we display such Holy Spirit generated fruit as peace, joy, and faith in the midst of the battle.

In this final Ephesians Bible study lesson we will examine God's formula for being properly equipped for experiencing victory in the midst of the fray.

NOTE: I recommend listening to the lessons on the tabernacle as I view this series as being one of the most valuable teachings in the Bible. The tabernacle lessons gives us God's formula (not man's) for being justified, sanctified (maturing as a Christian), having an effective prayer life, having an appetite for the Word of God, and for being a positive witness for Christ.

Rev. Dr. Dean, Pastor- If you are looking for a man with a fresh perspective to lead your church to another level, consider inviting Jack to come in and lead a series of teaching sessions. Our church thoroughly enjoyed the time. He is competent in handling the scriptures, and has great insight about Biblical truths that are often neglected or simply not taught by design in so many of our churches today. You will not be disappointed if you embark on such a course.

Connie - I can't put the book Under the Cloud down!

David (a Sunday School teacher for Young Marrieds) - It is a great teaching resource that I know is reliable. There are specific topics that I can easily access for use in my class like "The Rock" and I especially liked the section on "Educating the Flesh."

Mary Anne - Under the Cloud is not just another man's opinion, it is all based on Scripture.

Antoinette (who has already purchased over 30 books) - As I give the book to friends and clients, I say to them "put down all the other books you are reading and read this one! I promise you Under the Cloud will change your life."

Julie - I started reading Under the Cloud yesterday and felt enveloped in love, as well as wonderful memories of being taught amazing and powerful truths through two incredible servants of God. Thank You!

Name withheld by us - I will send my husband and son off to the Middle East in Sept. for their second deployment with a copy of your book. (Likely to Afghanistan).

Karen - I am really enjoying your book. It sure is one that I will go back to. I have already marked it up.

John & Jane - We are both enjoying your book so much. Please bring us 10 more signed copies on Thursday.

Rob - My only criticism of the book is that I eventually ran out of pages.

Sally - Your book is fantastic! I just wish I had read it 20 years ago. It would have answered a lot of my questions.

Wayne - I loved the section on "Rigged Fights."
