Introduction:

This series can be summed up in one word—freedom. When we become a Christian it is Christ's desire that we experience freedom from two main areas.

  • The first area is experiencing freedom from the fleshly addictions we adopted when we were citizens in the old kingdom. Most Christians view addictions as being hooked on alcohol, nicotine, and drugs. However, the vast majority of believers are not addicted to such bondage. What they are more likely to be addicted to is such bondage as anger, worry, fear, and depression. The dictionary definition of an addiction is anything that has become a way of life!
  • The second bondage Christians are to be set free from is the judgmental law of Moses (Galatians 5:1).

If it is your desire to find freedom from such bondage, then you will find this series to be a rewarding experience.

Romans
Bible Study Lesson 1

Paul begins his epistle to the Christians in Rome by mentioning several key words. In this lesson we will examine the following key words:

  • Christians being a bondservant to Christ.
  • Christians being separated.
  • Christians having power.
  • Christians displaying dominion. "You have made man to have dominion over the works of Your hands" (Psalm 8:6).

Romans
Bible Study Lesson 2

Jesus died for our sins.
Jesus also rose for
our sins.

This lesson is about the resurrection of Christ.

If we are asked why we believe in the resurrection we need to have a plausible answer. To say we believe because the event is recorded in the Bible will not cut it with most nonbelievers.

This lesson will provide you with conclusive evidence that a unique event took place three days after the crucifixion of Christ. A happening that would convince any open-minded jury that Christ was resurrected just as He announced prior to His death (Matthew 20:19).

Romans
Bible Study Lesson 4

This lesson is about fingerprints being placed upon this world.

  • We see evidence of God's fingerprints when Christians display such Holy Spirit generated fruit as peace, and joy in the midst of tribulations. Such traits are evidence of having being touched by the hand of God.
  • We also see evidence of God's touch when broken marriages are restored.
  • We see God's fingerprints when Christians find freedom from such bondage as worry, fear, and anxiety.
  • Satan's fingerprints are placed upon this world. Evidence of his touch is seen in broken lives, addictions, stress, fear, wars, and religion.

This lesson is about experiencing freedom from Satan's touch and having God's hand upon our lives—displaying the attributes of Christ.

  • Why redemption is free for Christians.
  • Why Calvary was a costly experience for Jesus.

  • The two Jerusalem's.
  • The two types of manna.

Romans
Bible Study Lesson 7

"A woman who has a husband is bound by the
law to her husband as long as he lives. But if
the husband dies she is released from the law
of her husband
"
Romans 7:2

Paul uses the above verse to teach a spiritual truth. When we become a Christian we become the bride to Christ, and are forever divorced from our first husbandAdam.

This lesson is about being no longer connected to fallen Adam, but becoming the bride to Christ, and possessing His righteousness.

Romans
Bible Study Lesson 8

"In all these things we are more than
conquerors through Him who loved us"

Romans 8:37

This lesson is about being more than conquerors in this stress-filled world.

We are familiar with the word conquerer. In Paul's day an army who conquered its foe would usually hold a victory party after the fact—after the enemy had been defeated. Being more than a conqueror means celebrating before the fact—viewing the battle as a rigged fight.

As Christians, isn't that how we should function? Experiencing victory in our hearts in the midst of life's battles—viewing the battles of life as rigged fights—viewing the tribulations as an opportunity to display faith in the Bible promises.

"Count it joy when you fall into
various trials"

James 1:2

If you are fed up with this world booting you around, and causing you to display such bondage as worry, fear, depression, anxiety, and anger, then this lesson will be of value.

Romans
Bible Study Lesson 9

This lesson opens with the question, "Who are Israelites?" This would have been an easy question for a Jew to answer, but how does this statement apply to born-again Gentiles? This lesson expands on this question.

  • A Gentile who has a born-again experience is immediately grafted into the Tree of Israel. He doesn't become a national Jew, but a spiritual Jew. He becomes the seed of the Jew Abraham—kin—a member of the same spiritual family (Galatians 3:29).
  • There won't be separate sections in heaven to house the various nationalities who have been redeemed. There will only be one citizenship—spiritual Jews who have been redeemed by the shed blood of Christ.
  • Throughout eternity the citizens in the kingdom of Christ will be ruled over by the #1 Jew—the Lord Jesus Christ.

This lessonis about the benefits of being a spiritual Israelite living under the Lordship of Christ.

Romans
Bible Study Lesson 10

This lesson is about a contest between God and Israel's pagan leadership during the days of Elijah. The purpose for the contest was to motivate Israelites to get off the fence and line up with God.

In today's lukewarm church era the pews are occupied with many fence sitters. While seated in a religious building they put on an impressive religious performance, but once they return to the real world, they function similar to nonbelievers. In the war zone such fleshly generated activities as worry, fear, anger, and depression are a way of life.

This study focuses on three steps that are necessary if today's church community is to get off the lukewarm fence.

Romans
Bible Study Lesson 11

"There remains therefore a rest for the
people of God. For he who has entered
His rest has himself also ceased from
his works...
"
Hebrews 4:9-10

This lesson focuses on the above verse. This verse is saying there is a rest that Christians can experience right here on planet earth—regardless of life's storms. I think it safe to say, displaying such fleshly activities as anger, worry, fear, and stress doesn't line up with the above verse.

If it is your desire to experience rest and peace, then this lesson will encourage you to seek that quality of life.

Romans
Bible Study Lesson 12

"Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar,
or not
?"
Matthew 22:17

The legalistic Pharisees and the Herodians collaborated in an attempt to discredit Jesus. By asking the above question they thought they had placed Him between a rock and hard place.

In this lesson we will see how Jesus cleverly answered this question and how He turned the spotlight on them.

Romans
Bible Study Lesson 13

In this final lesson we will examine the following key points:

  • Judging. Many Christians carry around an imaginary do and don't list that they attempt to impose upon others. Our do and don't lists needs to be discarded.
  • Peace. Dante said, "I am searching for that which every man seeks—peace." In this study we discover God's formula for experiencing peace in the midst of tribulations.
  • Faith. From God's perspective such fleshly activities as worry, fear, anger, and depression are the opposite of faith.
  • What strengthens our faith.
  • Unity. When everything is stripped aside, there is little genuine unity in today's Christian community. This study reveals God's formula for experiencing unity.
  • Striking blows at Satan. In this study we will look at different ways believers can strike damaging blows to the enemy.

Rev. Dr. Dean, Pastor- If you are looking for a man with a fresh perspective to lead your church to another level, consider inviting Jack to come in and lead a series of teaching sessions. Our church thoroughly enjoyed the time. He is competent in handling the scriptures, and has great insight about Biblical truths that are often neglected or simply not taught by design in so many of our churches today. You will not be disappointed if you embark on such a course.

Connie - I can't put the book Under the Cloud down!

David (a Sunday School teacher for Young Marrieds) - It is a great teaching resource that I know is reliable. There are specific topics that I can easily access for use in my class like "The Rock" and I especially liked the section on "Educating the Flesh."

Mary Anne - Under the Cloud is not just another man's opinion, it is all based on Scripture.

Antoinette (who has already purchased over 30 books) - As I give the book to friends and clients, I say to them "put down all the other books you are reading and read this one! I promise you Under the Cloud will change your life."

Julie - I started reading Under the Cloud yesterday and felt enveloped in love, as well as wonderful memories of being taught amazing and powerful truths through two incredible servants of God. Thank You!

Name withheld by us - I will send my husband and son off to the Middle East in Sept. for their second deployment with a copy of your book. (Likely to Afghanistan).

Karen - I am really enjoying your book. It sure is one that I will go back to. I have already marked it up.

John & Jane - We are both enjoying your book so much. Please bring us 10 more signed copies on Thursday.

Rob - My only criticism of the book is that I eventually ran out of pages.

Sally - Your book is fantastic! I just wish I had read it 20 years ago. It would have answered a lot of my questions.

Wayne - I loved the section on "Rigged Fights."
